koeb – BME Solar Decathlon team in the final phase
The World Architectural Competition in Szentendre begins in June
Budapest, 09. 06. 2019
In less than a month, this year’s Solar Decathlon Europe International Innovation and House Building Competition officially starts in Szentendre. Teams are preparing for their projects, and on June 27, the competition will begin, followed by a two-week measurement race. The BME team is still working hard at Horizont Global Ltd.’s site, and soon a competition building for introducing the koeb modules will be completed.
The koeb team has successfully made progress in terms of sponsorship, and there have been agreements that we celebrated with the representatives and partners from Budapest University of Technology and Economics at Horizont Global.
Due to successful university recruitment, our team has expanded with enthusiastic members who are actively involved in pre-construction. The work is under way and we are pleased that we have been able to involve other students in the project.
Pre-construction is progressing well, thanks to our supporters and the tireless work of the team. The foundation of the competition building, which will be suitable for housing, will also serve as a showroom, as we will present the modular system developed for renovation during operation in the competition building for the jury and visitors.
We designed a Northern and Southern Modules as part of the house design. In these, we erected the premises for the renovation of existing residential buildings. In the Southern Module, we placed space for space expansion, eco-friendly shielding technology and wide windows, which can provide a solution for housing expansion and quick, easy conversion. It features the innovative Gabion Wall, a solution to the building’s cooling and heating system.
In the Northern Module, we installed the mechanical unit and the modern bathroom with barrier-free access. The main function of the module is to create energy-efficient homes, as our engineering unit provides enough energy for the entire household with the solar panels installed on the house, and allows energy transfer and sharing with other koeb modules.
After the completion of the construction phase and a short testing, the koeb house will start its journey to Szentendre, where the house will be fully built in 240 hours along with its systems put into operation.
You can also visit the racing houses, including the koeb house in Szentendre, already during the measurement phase and thus with the teams. Starting from the first day of the competition period, from July 12, professionals and visitors can visit the “Solar Village” free of charge, to see the sample houses from the inside or outside.
